Gotham: From the Shadow of the Bat

Ran the first part of my prologue adventure last night.

The City mourns the deaths of Jim Gordon and The Batman, * Greyson, at the hands of Damien 'Robin' Wayne. The Heroes must discover why Wayne would murder his mentor and deal with the rampant crime in a city that no longer fears The Bat.

It went well, I expected the Battle with Robin to be a little tougher than it was, I'll change up his stats when he eventually breaks out of Blackgate looking for revenge. It was a good fight but the outcome was never really in doubt. I didn't really make effective use of his Villian Points was another one of the things I noticed.

Last issue, the players managed to track down and subdue the fifth Robin (Damian Wayne) who is known to have murdered Batman (* Grayson), and Police Commissioner James Gordon.

At the beginning of this issue it was brought to their attention that Robin is not wanted by the police, he was not in costume when he murdered Batman. The heroes talked to Wayne before taking him to the police and determined that he was under the effects of some sort of Mind control when he committed the murders. None-the-less they determined that turning him over to the authorities was the right thing to do. But with Batman known by the public to be dead they did not want to rob the city of Robin as well. After some thrift store shopping to put him in some street clothes the heroes took his costume and turned him in.

After leaving the MCU our heroes where ambushed by some one dressed as Batman (actually Jason Todd, the Red Hood) with pistols in drop holsters on each thigh. This should have been a very tough fight, it started out perfectly, he swooped down, popped smoke, grabbed the Renaissance Man and took him to a roof top to interrogate him about what they learned from Wayne. At this point I’d like to point out that this “Batman” had the Hero outclassed in every conceivable way. But after a grapple roll went in the Heroes favor (and I failed to properly read the wrestling rules) the Renaissance Man had the new Bat completely at his mercy.

They talked things through and Todd recognized the mind control device found on Robin’s mask as most likely belonging to The Mad Hatter. He abruptly exited at this point. Our heroes then put their noses to the ground to see if they could find the Hatter themselves. After a bit of asking around they learned that someone matching his description had been seen around an abandoned factory not far away.

They did a bit of reconnaissance and determined that the factory was for all appearances actually abandoned. They went into the yard and did an external assessment of the building. They found someone who did indeed match the Hatter’s description restrained in what appeared to be the factory’s break-room. Climbing a ladder to the roof they also found Five uniformly clad and heavily armed men inside the factory proper way more than would be used for any legitimate security.

Battle ensues our Heroes nearly lose and we call the issue after the fight.

I can't say much about the second session, but the first went exceptionally well. Considering that I was the only one playing who had any experience with the game, I'd almost say epic. We won the fight (nothing makes players hate the game like losing), and everyone wanted to keep going.

Kudos to you for running it. (Oh, and I totally called the Mind Control thing).
