Godzilla Rises from the Deep

So I really enjoyed playing B.A.S.H. at the last Pacificon/Conquest SF (thanks again, Chris!) so I'm planning on running a session this year...Of Gojira!

I'm gathering my miniatures resources (sorry, can't play Godzilla without mini's; in this case I'm probably going to use N-gauge people/cars/tanks and 11" vinyl Godzilla toys, which are fairly close to accurate scale. ;)

Play would alternate between human characters and huge monster characters, with events at each scale affecting the other.

So I'm thinking Gojira would actually be about "street level" power, he's big and buff but basically only has brawling and breath weapon for fighting. The following build is 26 points. The humans will be ~5 point builds, basically normal humans with at most one advantage (scientist has mind and a lab, kid has keen senses, reporter has connections, etc.) If super heroes existed in this world, a group should be able to take Gojira out.

Brawn: 5 (of course!)
Agility: 2
Mind: 1
Super Swimming: 2 (Gojira's good at swimming, not that you see much of that)
Super Jump: 3
Armor: 3 (tough scaly skin)
Resistance: 2 (electricity, fire, radiation, drowning)
Special Attack: 4 (atomic breath) + continual damage: 1 + area: large burst: 3
Size: 4 (reach 4, +20 result bonus, -4 defense dice)

Anyways, thoughts? Should Gojira be more a 40-point build (brawn greater than 5, for example?)

that's a very cool 100 ft tall mini Godzilla , however its price is 33 not 26 , are you remembering to pay 2 pts per point of stats ?

Actually, depending on how you mean the Special Attack, it could be 38 pts.

Special Attack 4, +4 DM, Large Burst = 7 + 2 for Linked to Continual Damage = 9 pts. That assumes the Large Burst is not part of the 4 pts in Special Attack, which fits the way it is written, and makes more sense in terms of damage - a x2 breath weapon wouldn't be all THAT intimidating to tanks. :)

Although maybe a Long Line (16x4 sq) would work better for a breath weapon than a point-blank burst? Or the new Cone shape Bashman has talked about.

And it sounds like an awesome one-shot, claud9999, it should be a lot of fun!

That is a cool idea! Will there be a direct link between the human heroes and their corresponding monsters? ie. Do the humans interact with their monster counterparts? Or are they simply working towards similar goals?

Once again, cool idea!

Ah, thanks for the correction. I haven't played B.A.S.H. since the session at the Con but I plan to playtest this before this year's Con (I have am DM for two D&D groups that I ...volunteer for my experiments.)

The old movies had it more like a very narrow beam than a dragon's breath, so 16x4 would be perfect.

The plan is there won't be direct interactions, but what you do at one scale affects the outcome at the other scale and vice-versa. For example, if Dr. Yamane researches a poison gas that he releases it on Godzilla, when we switch to the Godzilla fight he'll be down significantly (the humans rarely disable a monster but have some effect on the outcome.) Conversely, important locations will be identified and if a monster destroys a building or moves to a location it will affect the human adventure. Like, say, if Godzilla destroys the lab of Dr. Yamane, the good doctor will have to find another lab to do work and won't be able to develop the poison gas. Or if Godzilla runs away and goes to Infant Island (also known as Monster Island), the humans might want to risk a boat or plane trip to the island.

Direct interactions between monsters and humans == squish! So probably not, unless it's the end of the game.

I have the vinyl toys now; Godzilla is 6" tall, and according to the magic web he should be (in the classic films) 50m, so the toys are ~1/328 scale, 1/350 is a fairly common modeling scale but I'm not likely to go buy a bunch of models (each of which will cost more than all of the toys put together...) But if this works out, I'll probably make this an annual event and slowly build a collection of models and accessories. For an idea of the scale (1/328)--human=.2" tall, M60 tank=.83" long, F-4 phantom jet=2.30" long, USS Enterprise aircraft carrier=41" long (that'd be an expensive model!), Empire State Building=53" tall. As most office buildings will be around 2-3' (24-36") tall, I can use packing boxes as buildings.

For the human scale, I considered model train figures (which would be appropriately modern and mundane) but they're EXPENSIVE, like $2/ea for cheap, poorly painted figures (would be a great business opportunity for anybody who wants to make high quality figures for model trains!) Instead, I think I'll just go with Legos, the local store has the mix-and-match bodies/heads/hats/whatever so I can make mundanes that will probably suffice. Plus props are a-plenty, if I go down that path.

So, question...Ghidorah has three heads that can attack simultaneously, I thought the sanest way to rate this would be multiply the cost of the lightning breath attack by 3. Are there official rules that give guidance for creatures capable of making multiple attacks simultaneously against multiple targets?

In the Ghidorah movies, Godzilla had to team up with other monsters to take Ghidorah out, so this seems to be reasonable #'s.

Ghidorah (total cost: 47)
Brawn: 3, Agility: 4, Mind: 1 (cost = 16)
Flight: 3, powered by wings (sustained)
Armor: 3 (reflective scaly skin)
Resistance: electricity, radiation, vacuum (cost 2)
Special Attack: lightning breath, 2 + long line (area = 16x4sq) + maintained + 3 attacks / action (6x3 = 18)
Special Attack: wind gust, 2 + large burst (10x10sq)

I also tweaked Godzilla a bit...Really his atomic breath doesn't have much of an effect after he uses it (I was thinking of the scenes where he melts the electric towers or tanks and they glow hot red and ooze, but that doesn't really count.) But Godzilla's a good brawler, so I added push.

Godzilla (total cost: 38)
Brawn: 5, Agility: 2, Mind: 0 (cost = 14)
Super Swimming: 2
Super Jump: 3
Armor: 3 (tough scaly skin)
Resistance: electricity, fire, radiation, drowning (cost 2)
Special Attack: atomic breath, 4 + long line (area = 16x4sq) (cost = 7)
Push: 3
Size: 4 (reach 4, +20 result bonus, -4 defense dice)

How about Super Speed 5 (Limit: Lightning Breath Attacks Only) for 4 pts? That would let you use up to 3 panels in a row in one page for 3 lightning breath attacks, but you could only move once, or do other attacks once. And Super Speed is inherently tiring, so you couldn't do it more than twice in a row.

Alternatively, you could buy it as a Ricochet so that it is one attack that damages 3 targets, but when describing the attack treat it as three separate blasts rather than one shot that actually bounces around.

Have you signed up to run this yet at Pacificon? It is coming close! If so, when is the game scheduled? I'd love to at least stop by and see how it goes!

Bashman: I've pre-reg'd. I booked Monday morning but I accidentally submitted as a 2-hour slot, which is WAAAAAY too short...If they'll let me go 9-3 (forget when they close up) that'd be my pref. But if you're not going to be around on Monday, I can see if they'd shift me to a day you're around. (If you play in my game, I'd be extra grateful for the rules help. ;)

Lindharin: I'll probably go with Super Speed (wow, only 5 points to do 3 full actions when others only get 1? Seems unbalancing...) I'd trade out the tiring limit for the lightning breath limit, in the movies Ghidorah would continually breathe as he'd fly around. That'd make Ghidorah 40pts, I'll have to up something else, he should be probably 20+ more points than Godzilla. Oh, forgot also the 4 size for Ghidorah, that'll make him 44.

One other thing, turns out 6mm "micro" scale miniatures are fairly close, 1/285 (Godzilla will be ~43m tall in this scale), so I'll use GHQ military mini's. Should look nice!
