THE NEW BASH! FANTASY GETS ITS FIRST PUBLICATION IN LEGENDS OF STEEL- AN ADAPTATION OF EVIL DM'S ERISA SWORD & SORCERY SETTING. WHETHER YOU WANT TO BE A GRITTY STREET RAT, AN ADVENTURING SORCERER PRINCESS, OR A BARBARIAN SOMERSAULTING THROUGH LIZARD MEN WITH A BLAZING SUN SWORD, WE THINK YOU'LL LIKE LEGENDS OF STEEL.
HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM BASH! FANTASY EDITION?
WELL, UNLIKE THE ORIGINAL BASH! FANTASY EDITION, WHICH WAS VERY MUCH A SYSTEM + TOOLKIT FOR MAKING YOUR OWN CAMPAIGNS- LEGENDS OF STEEL IS A SYSTEM + COMPLETE CAMPAIGN SETTING. SO RATHER THAN ADVICE ON HOW TO CRAFT A NUMBER OF DIVERSE SETTINGS, IT GIVES VERY SPECIFIC INFORMATION ON THE SETTING OF ERISA, AND THE RULES ARE DESIGNED WITH THE ERISA SETTING IN MIND. MAGIC IS MUCH MORE RARE AND SPECIAL HERE THAN YOUR TYPICAL HIGH-FANTASY SETTING.
YOU WON'T SEE RULES FOR MAKING HIGH-FANTASY ELVEN WIZARDS FLYING AROUND AND CASTING FIREBALL OR SIX-GUN WIELDING STEAM-PUNK SHERIFFS HERE. WHAT YOU WILL FIND ARE ERISAN GODS AND MAGICAL COLLEGES THAT DETERMINE SPELLS. THERE ARE NO "MAGIC ITEM SHOPS"- BUT THERE ARE UNIQUE MAGIC ITEMS OF GREAT RENOWN SCATTERED THROUGHOUT THE LANDS, WAITING TO BE DISCOVERED BY INTREPID ADVENTURERS. YOU WON'T FIND A +1 SWORD- BUT YOU MAY JUST FIND A "EBON BLADE OF THE ANCIENTS".
HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM OTHER LEGENDS OF STEEL SETTINGS?
LEGENDS OF STEEL EXISTS CURRENTLY IN BOTH SAVAGE WORLDS AND BARBARIANS OF LEMURIA EDITIONS. OBVIOUSLY, THE MAIN DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEM WILL BE THE ENGINE THAT DRIVES THE SYSTEM WILL BE BASED OFF OF BASH! THE SETTING ITSELF IS BASICALLY THE SAME. WHAT WAS AN EDGE IN SAVAGE WORLDS MAY END UP AS A POWER OR AN ADVANTAGE IN BASH- OR MAY NOT BE TRANSLATED AT ALL IF IT DOESN'T FIT WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE SYSTEM. LIKEWISE, THE BASH! EDITION WILL HAVE ITS OWN UNIQUE ADVANTAGES, POWERS, ETC.
IS IT AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER?
NOT YET, BUT STAY TUNED.

You might want to review the Erisia stuff (from pre-existing books) for typos, etc, along with your rules. It will definitely improve the book.

I am doing so- but first I need to get the rules where I want them.

So do you need BASH Fantasy to play BASH LoS?

Nope. It is a standalone game. The rules in LoS are an update of what you'll find in Bash Fantasy- sort of like Ultimate Edition.

Ewww excellent, can't wait to get a copy of this. I have BoL and have been debating on getting it for BoL or not, maybe I will wait for the Bash version.

How easy would it be to do a DnD campaign with LoS?

Very. The game will still have all the high fantasy powers- it just won't come with pre-packaged fantasy races. You can easily build any fantasy race using the material therein. For instance, if you wanted to make a "Dragon-Men" Race, you could do this by taking the Toughness and Special Attack powers to represent scales & fire breath. If you want them to be extremely charismatic, you say that they always have the Appeal advantage. If they're strong, you could make their Minimum Brawn be a 2 or 3, and unlike humans, doesn't cap at 4. If you want them to be a bit sluggish, though, you might say they have a maximum of 3 or 2 in Agility. Quite simple, really.
As far as magic items go- you can of course build them as powers with "focus" limitations (I didn't want to use the word "gadget" for magic wands, etc).
The first BASH! Fantasy had lists of magic items you can purchase with money. That will be an option in BASH! Fantasy UE but isn't in Legends of Steel. We wanted magic items to be more rare and special in that book. In the meantime, a substitute for a "magic item list" would be to assign an amount of Money to how many points an item is worth. The monetary value should be on an exponential scale. Maybe, the point value of the item (ignoring the focus limitation, but considering an additional limitation) squared x1000 would be an okay price point.
Then just take an item you like from another game, and build it. So you want a "Sun Sword?" Give the sword the enhancement: Extra Effect: +2DM vs. Undead" and "Light Mastery 3". That's worth about 16,000 Marks then.

Legends of Steel? It needs to finish layout. It will be released sometime in 2011, hopefully in the first quarter.

Well during layout we figured out that there wasn't enough art. Which meant that we had to comission MORE artwork, which as you may know, can take a lot of time. The good news is that it is starting to come in.

Will definitely get the pdf for this when it comes out. I love R E Howard's Conan stories. Nubile women, evil sorcerers, mighty barbarians, what more can you ask for?

I'm anticipating the release of this one! I was curious if Energy is the main balancing mechanic (like Sci-Fi) or if other it will borrow from BASH:UE and have other limitation options?
