BEFORE I GET STARTED:
I just found a thread that explained how to include links specifically to each build, and since I don't know how to add a post before an older post, I'm going to attempt to build a Table of Contents right here (thanks, Coyote! It works!):

Okay... a fresh start here for a newbie. I'll start off with a character I originally created with DC Heroes, 'ported her over to M&M2E, and now have finally found a home with BASH!

May I introduce...

Slim, athletic Asian female.

clothing.

"June" teaches music at Banneker Middle
School in Chicago.

Orphaned at birth, June was stealing
food from a rich widow's house when
she discovered an iridescent cricket
imprisoned in a bejewelled golden
cage. She released it, and the insect
(a magical lucky cricket) granted June
her powers so that she too could
escape her miserable life.

June quickly said goodbye to her
friends on the street, and used her
powers to escape China and fled to
America.

She was soon able to start teaching
Mandarin Chinese as a tutor, which
lead to a full-time teaching job at
Banneker Middle School.

June's primary concern is with the
protection of the innocent, especially
children.

NOTE: This build incorporates suggestions later in this thread, and backstory copied from post below.

Welcome, Aardvark! :)

And that looks like a fun build - I look forward to seeing more!

I like it :)

What do you see her costume looking like?

I've created a look for her I like using Hero Machine:

http://www.ugo.com/channels/comics/hero ... chine2.asp

I think the colors leave a lot to be desired; too predictable, boring and un-original (in the character I created, not the hero machine itself)

... um, I have a 50kb .jpg photo of her costume, but I can't seem to upload it correctly. Is it because I'm so new to the boards? Is there a grace period?

BTW, thank you for the comments. I hope to keep filling this thread. It's difficult, tho, y'know? I mean, how many more original designs are left out there? Every conceivable combination of powers seems to have already been explored.

Well, I'll just put out there what I've created, and hope people like them.

You know, I've never tried to upload a file here. :) Let me see what happens...

Doesn't seem to work for me either, so it's not a post-count problem.

The way I've been displaying images is to upload them to my own web site, then use the
[ img ]http://www.whatever.com[ /img] tag in the post.

And yes, it can be a bit challenging to find completely new build ideas. But characters are another story - with an interesting personality and origin story, the same powers take on a whole different meaning and flavor.

Yeah, I totally agree with you on this one. The backstory and elements of personallity you present in the background are the true identifiers of a character. Two characters with identical stats become totally unique individuals when you give them different stories and costumes; and, unless the character stats are read back-to-back, the identical stats might go completely unnoticed.

Alas there are no uploads to this site.

But Photobucket offers free, easy hosting and is quite useful.

I would love to see what she looks like :)

I've decided to stay with Photobucket... Flickr is confusing.

Nice look, not at all what I was expecting :)

Here's my attempt to recreate your image in Fabrica;

What do you think?

Looks great- but a word of Warning- Photobucket deletes peoples pictures after a while. You're far better off using Flickr to host images.

Cricket is a nice character -HF-Aardvark892 (may I call you Aardy for short?). I was thinking that you could give her a unique attack power in line with her other cool powers...

Cricket Kick: Special Attack 3 (+1 to hit, +2 Damage Modifier). 3pts

This would give her another obvious use for those powerful legs. You could even throw this into an offensive multi-power combination.

Leg Attack Multi-power. 4pts
-Cricket Kick: Special Attack 3 (+1 to hit, +2 DM)
-Kicking Rebuff: Push 3 (+6 DM for knock-back only)

[Kicking Rebuff: Just imagine Cricket hopping up on some startled Brick’s chest, whisper “Bye-bye” into his ear, and then – with feet firmly set on his chest – kicks out; sending the brute down the street and into the back of a garbage truck.]

To finish her off, you could even add on Martial Arts Mastery 1 (Defensive or Fast styles) to make her a little more ‘dangerous’ in combat (it might be clichéd but she is from China after all). That would bring her up to a total of 27 points.

Okay, two things. The Fabrica picture ROCKS. Thank you.

I REALLY like the kick attack and push elements. Very very cool. Gives her a lot more depth.

With 27 points, would that mean two setbacks in a 25 point game?

I'll give flickr a try... used to have an account way back when...

P.S. Well, tried Flickr, but can't for the life of me find out how to get the img code!
