Sijo's Builds

Now that I have finished reading The ADEL files (and re-read UE) I'm ready to start making some new BASH builds!

I started with an easy one: El Chapulin Colorado (The Red Grasshopper) a superhero parody from Mexico who became an international success (he even inspired The Simpsons' Bumblebee Man!) and was one of my childhood heroes. They just made an animated adaptation, which inspired me to do this:

Hey, and while you are at it, check out the rest of my blog!

Nice. :) If he can appear anywhere in space and time, he could easily get involved in Megapolis. ;)

As a matter of fact, I'm currently reading Megapolis (nice work btw) and I'm planning on getting the Awesome Powers book on Spatial Powers soon so I hope to better define Chapulin's ability to get around (not that it has ever been defined well in the show anyway- one of the (many) running gags is that someone exclaims "Oh! And who can help me now" and Chapulin will burst in shouting ME!! -only to immediately trip on something. ) :P

Based on the effect it has on the show, I'd think about giving Chapulin's hammer more damage. When he hits someone with it, even accidentally on the backswing, you hear a giant bell-gonging sound and the person looks stupified and passes out.

Unless.... all the NPCs on the show are 10 Hit minions....

Though in the "Karate" episode, the guy he has to fight at the end definitely was not (as multiple objects were broken over his head without result).

Yeah, the only people I ever saw resist the Hammer were the Samurai on the Madame Butterfly episode, and the Monster on the Frankenstein episode. However since the series is otherwise so low-level (Mystery Men, if that, not to mention a comedy) it's difficult to gauge damage. Maybe after I'm done watching the Animated series I'll have a better idea. Keep in mind though that Chapulin *is* supposed to be a weakling who wins mainly by luck and wits.

Considering how many times he knocks out the people he is trying to help before he wins in the end, I can definitely see him having some sort of "Bad Luck by association" disad!

I think he predates Inspector Gadget; but maybe not Inspector Cleusseu. His "mess up till I win by accident and call it victory" method always reminds me of those two.

Did you ever see an episode where Chapulin FAILS to help the people he is there to rescue. I did see it happen once; a honeymoon couple was told by the owner of the hotel they owed 30,000 pesos instead of the 300 they were expecting and would not let them leave (to catch their plane) until they paid, and held their tickets as collateral. Chapulin comes to the rescue and helps them escape the Hotel... but loses their plane tickets!

I'm pretty sure Chapulin is older than Gadget, but not as old as Closeau. It wouldn't surprise me if the Pink Panther movies had an influence on Bolanos; he had an admiration for Old Cinema, in particular Charles Chaplin.

Yes, Chapulin did fail on occasion. Usually to make a joke; the Cavewomen from Venus decided that they liked the Earth Astronauts after all (kinda sexist I know); after Chapulin defeated Frankenstein by explaining the cost of living to him -causing him to return to his grave- but when Chapulin pointed this out to the other characters, they too went into the tomb! XD In fact the only ending I found sad was Madame Butterfly's, since in the end the Sailor she loved just up and decides to leave her. What an *.

And now, my first, fully original character in BASH terms!

The Traveler
Brawn 1 (2 points)
Agility 2 (4 points)
Mind 2 (4 points)
Powers
Dimensional Teleportation (any dimension) (3 points)
Omni-linguist (2 points)
Shape-Shifting (CP Proxy, +6 points) (Situational- only when in danger -1 point) (9 points)
Weapon Technique (+1 to hit with all physical attacks) (2 points)
Advantages
Jack of All Trades
Versatile
Disadvantages
Cosmic Conscript
Destitute
Secret (dimensional traveler)
Skills
Athletics/Climbing
Occultism/Legends
Stealth/Prowling
Social Science/History
Mental Malfunction: Curiosity- The Traveler seeks to visit all the worlds in the Omniverse, and experience all its wonders- or as many as he can in his life. He doesn't consider himself a superhero and would rather investigate mysteries instead. However he will not hesitate to protect innocents if needed.
Total Cost: 26 points
Background: The man known only as The Traveler originally came from a typical Earth, one of the seemingly infinite ones in the Omniverse. When he was a child, he stumbled onto a portal to the Land of The Fae, which he was able to use when other humans couldn't. On that world, he befriended some tiny fairies who explained where he was and that he must have a special gift of some kind. He returned home and told his family about this, but of course they thought he was just making it up. Besides, his family was highly Conservative and did not approve of such things as “magic”. So he did not mention it again… while secretly continuing to visit his new friends.
The Traveler learned much from the Fae, both about magic and about the existence of other dimensions. When his parents passed away, he no longer felt bound to his native world, and he left it to explore the rest of Creation.

Notes:
*The Traveler never uses his true identity to avoid getting entangled in the lives of any counterparts of himself that might exist on a world he visits. Instead he goes by the name of “Simon Jones”.
*When people ask he tends to describe himself as “just a traveler.”
*He travels by “riding the cosmic flows.” This power occasionally malfunctions, leaving him temporarily stranded, usually in places where, coincidentally, his help is needed. He's not sure if some Higher Power is guiding him, or if Injustice exists everywhere.
*He eventually discovered that his gift is an inherited one; he's descended from a Spanish Sorcerer.
*Exposure to various forces and substances over the years have given him the ability adapt to any environment (his Shape-shifting power). This activates as soon as he enters an alien or dangerous environment (including hazards such as Damage Zones) and he cannot choose what powers he will gain. They will last for an Issue or until exposed to a different danger (or something Nullifies them.)
*Since he can only carry what he wears, he's effectively Destitute when he first arrives on a world. This forces him to look for jobs; Good thing he's good at a lot of things .
*His combat ability is a result both of surviving in dangerous worlds and of hiring himself as a mercenary occasionally.
*Note he has Omni-Linguist but not Omni-Reader; This power is a gift from the fairies to help him in his journeys but they failed to consider that detail. This results in occasional embarrassments because he looks illiterate.
*He will usually not reveal that he's from another universe because most people have no knowledge about the Omniverse, and those who do tend to single him out because of it.
*I incorporated ideas by Mr. Jupiter and Bashman. Once again, Thanks a lot, and any further imput is welcome!
Description: Male, in his 20's, short black hair, brown eyes, average build, no notable features. Dresses in whatever clothes are typical to the time and place he's visiting, trying to blend in as much as he can.

Very interesting; sort of a magical Dr. Who. One adjustment I would make (that won't cost you any points) is to change Weapon Technique to Boost (Agillity) only for attacks. Weapon technique applies to a specific weapon, unless it is enhanced to affect a larger group of weapons. If his bonus is with any weapon or unarmed, Boost works better.

The main reason someone would take Weapon Technique instead of boost is someone with the Normal Disadvantage who thus, cannot have Boost, or someone who specifically only uses certain weapons.

Great character Sijo. I agree with BASHMAN about the fresh, Dr. Who vibe of The Traveler. Now all he needs are some super-companions to take on his journies...

Thanks for making a point on this. I have similarly made over-use of Weapon Technique, not thinking about applying an Agility Boost instead as a defacto Fighting Aptitude.

@MrJupiter: Thanks! :) This character is dear to my heart, I made him when I was like 7 :P right after I first read about fairies. Over the years it evolved as I learned more about other types of Fiction including superheroes and Dr. Who. ;)

Its neat to see your characters evolve over time. Originally, I made Mr. Jupiter for V&V as a African-American, Giant-Man knock off (taking inspirations from the largest planet in the Solar System and the "Mr." form Mr. T). The whole pseudo-Zeus, thunderbolts-thing came a couple of years later.

Whoops. I forgot I had already made this thread. :P

Could an Admin merge the two please?
