Character Gen Help

Post by bigsteveuk »

Hi Guys,

Looking for some input.

One of my players characters has gone of on a advenute which will be done out of game. So he needs a new character, he has given me this excellent background and I want to give it justice, also not to sure about how to handle the ghost (maybe sidekick)
I'll leave you to fill in the gaps, and powers (fencing, medicine etc).

My name is Clarence Oddbody, Dr Clarence Oddbody MD. I stand a healthy 6' tall and for my 50 years I am broad of shoulder and slim of waist. I wear my black hair short, although it has for some reason gone white at both temples. I also as is my want maintain a mostache and goatee. I have been and still am a keen follower of the art of fencing, a fact I'll wager that has kept me in such fine muscualarity for my senior years. I have it has been said a pair of the most piercing blues eyes, eyes that seem to see more than they tell.

I generally wear well cut tan riding trews, with brown topped riding boots of black leather. A long riders jacket lined with red silk, leather gloves, a frilled cravat in which is pinned an unusual jewelled gem pin. I have several odd looking rings upon my fingers. I wear a waist coat made of many coloured fine chinese silk, depicting a large number of strange and exoctic creatures of myth entwinned.

Many moons ago whilst working at the hospital late at night I had a strange experience.

I held a conversation with a patient that I knew was dead, after all it had been I that had signed the death certificate. It would seem that the rather lovely, dare I say beautiful woman had unfinished business in the world of the living. She asked that as I had, in the months that I tried to save her life, impressed her with both my kindness and tenaciousity that I deliver a last message of comfort to her family. This I had done, and had it would seem made a very good impression with said wealthy beautiful younger sister.

However this only served to complicate matters, for it would seem that the sister that had passed on had not actually 'passed on'. In fact it would seem that I had become the object of her desire, dare I say love (for both sisters living and dead). The sister (dead) said that she was sworn to me and was hence forth my spirit guide.

At first I thought I must be going quite mad, but as time went on she showed me a world that I could not see for myself and so my adventures into the spirit world and the arcane began. And I have to say you really would not believe my tales even if I told you of them.

Powers etc

Melissa Louise Stratham-Rogers 27 (Deceased): Mellissa was in life a truely beautiful woman, with pale skin and long wavey red hair to her waist. Intelligent, witty, spirited and fun. Tall at 5' 10", with a tiny waist and figure that turned heads, very much at home in the library or on horseback. She died of a mysterious ailment that saw her grow weaker and weaker until life at last left her body (plot development hint hint). When she appears it is only to Clarence i.e he can see her others cannot, she can see and talk to the recently deceased being a spirit herself. One of her abilities is that with Clarence's permission she can 'join' him in his body so that he can see what she sees and they can converse (those listening would only hear Clarence's side of the conversation). GM might need to give me notes for Melissa's words, might be fun if the others thought my character was possible a bit mad.

I was thinking I would like Clarence to have the ability of a post cog, being able on a die roll I imagine to see what has recently happened in a room etc. Or perhaps by touching/holding an object. A kind of 'seeking the truth' ability allowing the unseen or nefarious to be unmasked.

He might also be able to fight magical or spirtual beings with Mellissa's help, a kind of spirit stun.

Allies

Rebecca Elizabeth Stratham-Rogers 25 (Not Deceased) Younger sister of Melissa (just as fine). Very weathy and and head over heels in love with Clarence. Was very close to her sister took her death badly, but got through it due to Clarence's help. Not to mention a little help from Melissa (who doesn't mind sharing 'her man')

Enemies

Dementia Hedgeborn

A witch that had a migical ring that Clarence 'liberated' from her to stop her using its powers to do naughty things. You can give me an idea of what those powers might be.

Zoroastrian the Great?

A sorcerer that Clarence help relieve from the burden of having to carry around the unusal and quite potent magical jewel that he now wears in his cravat. Again up to you. Guy is * as without his gem he's not so Great.

Vitriol Sarcasses

A detective that hates him for being so good at detection, who is trying to find out the 'secret' to his success as a detective. Does not know about Melissa.
This is a Regency period hero, mystery man level about 25 - 29 points, probably going to be gadget based, thinking of using gadgets and casting to keep costs down.

Any thoughts, ideas?

Cheers,

Steve

I'd try using Alter Ego (convenient), so the character actually is both characters, Dr. Oddbody having Clarivoyance and the rest of the powers based (and dependants) on the ghost. This will allow the player switch character as needed (or roleplay both of them, pheraps) and takes some burden from the GM, leting him describe scenes as oposed to permanently portrait the ghost as a talking extra sensorial input. Of course the GM can, in convenient moments, roleplay the dead girl to give some important info. At the same time it turns playable some scenes in which she enters a haunted house in search of clues, etc. It is troupe style like.
This option comes to my mind since the ghost girl in herself is the powers of the character and obviously she is very importan to the concept. She is half the character, as it seems.
