Why Super Mario? No reason, I just happened to be playing Paper Mario recently and felt like trying this out. BASH! does sound like a game that could provide an atmosphere appropriate to a Mario-based campaign.
Note that Mario's abilities vary greatly from game to game. Those below are just examples.

Background: Mario Mario (yes that's his official name!) was born in the Mushroom World, though by the time he was an adult, he was living in a more realistic city (possibly New York; its not certain if he remembers where he was born.) There he saved his friend Pauline from being kidnapped by an escaped ape (Donkey Kong.) Later he (along his brother Luigi) worked as a plumber in a sewer that was infested with monsters such as the turtle-like Koopas (this is either in the Mushroom world, or possibly, a portal in the New York sewers). Since then, he and Luigi have been living in the Mushroom World, probably because Mario is in love with its Princess, Peach, who keeps getting kidnapped by Bowser, the King of the Koopas (who ALSO has a secret crush on her!) so he has to constantly rescue her, with help from the locals and the various magic items that can be found or bought there.
That was fun.
I might do the other Mario characters later on.
