This is "GOURD", Det. Gordon Parks. A noir-style detective with the Rust City PD who is actually a Nocturnal - immortal pumpkin-headed scarecrow.

This is "GARNET" Rust City PD's Medical Examiner. She found herself with no memories on a cold metal slab in the RCPD morgue. So... instinctively she Mind Controlled the previous Medical Examiner and took on his duties. Later learning... she has many powers of a Vampire myth. HEY... she must be a Vampire!

This is (Craig's PC) he's just a normal guy, a beat cop. Always was normal until in his home city something weird happened (when unknown to him some powered/Nocturnal must have come near him) and he found himself with some STRANGE powers - having unknowningly absorbed them!
He was quickly shipped out to Rust City (where the weirdos are). Now he's just trying to figure it all out in a city where he CAN now sense and copycat powers!

This is Doc Wednesday. He's the wildcard of our Graveyard Shift, Rust City PD unit. Having worked with the cops on occassion in the past - the Doctor is the go-to guy for mystics and the like.
His connections with the Asgardian All-Father is more than apparent.

1/ Koodoes for running a Nocturnals campaign.

and

2/ I love those sheets (I have an older Excel and can't get them to display at all nicely).

Game play is/was pretty brilliant.
The players (mostly new to BASH!) got the game fairly quickly and easily. The rules worked fine. They really used/liked the Hero Die stunt system.

We swapped games/campaigns/rules to Vampire: the Dark Ages after 2 adventures (about 6 sessions). NOT for lack of fun or interest with this campaign, but rather this campaign was our "starter" campaign to get to know each other as new players and a new group. We went to a more "serious" non-supers, historical setting/game.

So much so that they took my 1st adventure plot a fairly lowly level situation to a COSMIC setting situation. Here's the quicky setup and resolution:

- the group is the Graveyard Shift, the night shift of the local police dept mimicing the P.I. Tim Burton noir style of the Nocturnals' comic series. Investigating the weird things that others can't see during the days.

- the basic plot of the first case was the theft of a book. Mistress Thanatos (aka. DEATH; aka. little blue-haired librarian lady Deloris Graves) had her power as death-incarnate stolen and flip-flopped when her original "Book the the Dead" was stolen! Hence, DEATH could die but no other living soul could!

- This led to her calling for help, and that arrived in the form of a massive old ship of the line style "tall ship" with the captain in full bell-helmet diving gear to smash into the docks of the city, with his minions (zombie fishmen) coming looking to protect Mistress Thanatos while she was powerless. This was my twist on an interpretation of Charon the boatman!

- the Graveyarders arrived at this "invasion" and managed to send it off (literally taking control of the boat, gating it to the Moon!). But learned little of the theft plot, other than sensing magics from an old fella who'd arrived in the bystanders to see the invasion (with the book!). The old gentleman (actually the newly learned wizard, and actual old man Longinus - the soldier dude that stabbed Jesus on the cross!) STOLE away in the dimension hopping Mustang "Slepnir" (Doc Wednesday's super vehicle!).

- following some investigation and sweeping up some of the "psuedo-dead" (ie. the people hurt in the invasion that SHOULD for all rights be DEAD) and learning that "the dead can't die"... The detectives followed up on the leads but were triggered when "Herman" (Longinus' newly taken name - imagine an OLDER 80s aged version of the nerd from Ghostbusters) his familiar was caught watching them in the crime lab (as it was trying to steal docs and thwart the investigation at his orders).

- catching up with Herman, and the little old lady Mrs. Graves with some investigation.... the Detectives started piecing together the theft of the book with the dead can't die plot. (the PCs are the ones that ACTUALLY named Herman as Longinus! getting a Hero Die reward for the neat idea!).

- they also found/recovered the car Slepnir as Herman's buddies were joy riding in the demon-gating car! Imagine a little group of old folks (as in the movie Cacoon!)... figuring out that Herman's REAL plan was to steal the Book of the Dead (making everyone immortal) so that all his friends would stop dying!!

- as his plan worked!! this is where the PCs took the case COSMIC!! Instead of doing anything to recover/recreate the book that Herman had stolen locally... they decided to gate to another dimension to find a "God of the Dead" to ask to copy their "copy" of the great book!! (again Hero Die spent and then rewarded back for a COOL idea!)

- they had no clue "which" God of the Dead they were looking for... but they focused on finding the jackal Death God "Hermanubis": ...the “conductor of souls,” sometimes identified by the Greco-Roman world with the Greek Hermes and Anubi in the composite deity.

- Hermanubis agreed to help by letting them copy his book, but was mystified at the idea of "Death can Die" and as payment requested to ride back with them in the dimension-hopping mustang to see Mistress Thanatos, the idea of death now powerless.....

- the Detectives didn't see the implications coming!! Arriving back in Rust City, Hermanubis' "jackel-side" came out as he rose to slay little blue haired Mrs. Graves! to Steal her spot as Death Incarnate!! (when he restored the book for the Detectives!).

- This also brought a great gathering of Death Gods! (as one of the PC's wards contacted them all, through her cell phone texting - being an incarnation of Nyalartheotep in the form of a little blonde girl!!)...

- so as Hermanubis attacked Death Gods started popping in all over the place!!!

- the end solution was that the Detectives learned (ie. came to an idea/solution!) that if Mrs. Graves were to die, SOMEONE must take her place!! They decided to rush in, get the old man Herman/Longinus and offer the position to HIM!! So he could enevitably CHOOSE who died and didn't, solving his problem of loosing loved ones!!

- it worked! And after a 3 day long celebration wherein the Death Gods took over Rust City (at the planning/behest of the New Orleans Loa Barons!!) they had a wonderful fun party to celebrate the fixing of the problem!

In the end the PCs turned my little book theft into a dimension hopping COSMIC murder case! With a big battle royal, gathering of every Death God in existance... followed by a party put on by the Baron's family!
All resulting in some neat new abilities for the PCs as well as assignments as "hosts" of future cosmic events to be held in Rust City!

The End.
