Cosmic One Shot heroes!

Post by urbwar »

This Sunday, I run another BASH one shot,. I got some of the art in (should have the rest later), so I started whipping up characters).

First, here is Major Meteor, 1950's Earth hero turned cosmic wanderer:

Next, here is S'Lar, a member of the ION Guard:

Nice job!

One question: how is Major Meteor getting a x6 soak, or S'Lar a x9?

Crap. More mistakes I need to fix. I was counting the Force Field for both as part of the soak. Must correct.

S'lar is listed as having a racial power of "Armor 1" for 2pts. Why is it 2 pts instead of 1?

Ok, so I've been playing around with the Bash Builder excel program. After some frustration and * ups on my part, I think I have it figured out.

I have redone 4 of my Golden Age characters for my next one shoot. Sky Marshal & Velocity Jane are unchanged, while I made some serious revisions to The Badge, as he turned out more powerful than I had planned. American Ape turned out to be short point wise (as I appear to have left out the point for each Multi-Power). I edited my earlier posts, but for simplicity sake, here are all 3 of them with their new sheets:

Started working on the villains. Here is my version of Sovi-Ape, and Red Ant, one of his super powered thugs:

Good looks and very creative concepts. I especially like the grin on Red ant's Face and the quote for the Badge.

Please use larger font size for your text.
For your power descriptions, it might be more readable if they were one line instead of 2 or had spaces between them.

Red Ant was art I got from a message board that does that kind of art, but I thought it was cool to use. All the heroes were posted earlier in this thread; iirc, you commented on one or more of them before

I don't know excel that well, so I didn't know I could do that. I'd rather not use one line, as it runs off the column set up in the program, and (at least on my pc) didn't display well when it ran long. If I make the text larger, i don't see that being better either.

Edit: I went and bumped the text on Red Ant's sheet from 11 to 16. When I look at the display, the text still looks the same size to me.

Hey urbwar.... I know you're having a learning-curve on getting up to speed on the uses and such of the Amazing BASH! Builder Excel character builder sheet... and I can see your characters evolving which is great.
My curious question...
Is the Excel building actually HELPING in your build construction?

I have found that the auto-mated parts of the Excel sheet, with the very simplified rule lists to choose from and the tab-by-tab build style really helps me think through everything.

Rather than looking at a blank page of a character sheet and only referencing the BASH! UE core book.

And once you know where to put all the modifiers (alot can be done on the "STATS" tab) and also know how/where to list all the correct point costs, it really helps me to get my numbers accurate - both the modifiers from the (sometimes) several different sources (for your Priority for example) to the actual Character Point cost total.

Then saving it... allows me to quickly update a sheet with changes when folks suggest ideas or I find mistakes in rules or costs.

That, I feel is the purpose of the "ABB" excel builder.
As you still master all the intricacies and formatting issues of EXCEL itself, Is it starting to do that for you, at least?

At the moment, no. That's because of the 4 heroes, 3 I kept the same from the old sheets. The Badge I modified, but that was to tone him down, as he was a combat monster, which went against the concept I had for him.

Sovi-Ape is basically American Ape with some changes (like no bracers, and more science skills), and Red Ant is a lesser villain henchman for Sovi-Ape, so he's not that well thought out (as he's not that important for the storyline, except to reveal to the heroes that Sovi-Ape is the arch-villain of the piece)

I use those sometimes, but I still find myself looking at the book for most stuff.

I tend to make notes on paper for basic powers before I sit down to type it up, so it makes things a little easier when I do it.

As long as I just copy within the file, and not cut and paste, it works fine. Things went smoother once I figured that out.

Now I just need to redo all these onto the modern style sheets, so the text is more legible, and upload them to photobucket, etc.

Ok, so I revised the sheets using the Modern Template. Other than the box for their origin/background, I was able to increase the text size better. Hopefully these are easier to read the power descriptions.

Here's the 1950's version of Major Meteor, with Red hair (as he's still fairly young at this stage):

Here is the new sheet for Mr. Flexible:

Last, but far from least, here is the new sheet for Sky Marshal's Rocket Ship, The Wyatt Earp:

Mr. Flexibile looks good with some fun powers. And it is much easier now to read the descriptions with the font change.

Thanks Michael. I think Mr. Flexible is basically the stretcher template from the book, but with a Disney slant to his original (ie he's the brother of the Absent Minded Professor, and he was doused with a prototype of what would become flubber).

Now I just need to get the rest of The Colony done....

Hey urbwar!

I dig your updates! I also like that you thought to do their ship on a normal character sheet. I like it, because in essence - there is no reason that a Super Vehicle or even Headquarters can't be built EXACTLY like a hero/villain character. Completed on a normal character sheet, etc... They both have all the exact same options. It just makes sense.

I've been toying alot with the LOOK of the AMZ BASH! BUILDER, so I thought it'd be fun to update one of your characters to my new look for the "Modern Age" sheet. I'm also working on a second option on the sheet for the "Golden Age" option, but still need to finish it. Anyway... Here's the screen shot and text-block as I've done my builds. If you would like the Excel file I made this with, email me and I'll forward it to you to use.

enjoy.
