Tesla! He'd make a great villain for the Rogue's Gallery (which I hadn't given enough thought to filling out). Thanks, and if I ever do put Tesla in there I'll be sure to credit you, AslanC, for the inspiration.

Just put together some stats for a villain character intended to be a deadly assassin using handguns. Before I put together the character sheet I wanted to get some corrective criticism first as I've never made a character like this before.

Scarlet Deadeye
Despite being blind and scarred in her right eye, Scarlet Deadeye has a keen eye with an intuitive sense of depth and distance. She is a cold killer working for a crime lord.

B 1 A 3 M 2

Powers:
‘* with a Handgun’ multi-power (all these Intense Training Powers have the Limitation: Situational – requires using 1 or more loaded handguns). 3pts
>Attack Weak Point
>Double Tap
>Disarm Expert
‘Wicked Shot’ Special Attack 5 (Mid range, Area – 2 targets Ricochet). [Limitation: Situational – requires a loaded handgun. Enhancement: Variable.] 9pts
Keen Senses (Eye) 1pt
Deflect 2 [Limitation: Situational – requires a loaded handgun.] 1pt
Fast Reload: Super Speed 3 [Limitation: Situational – extra panel can only be used to reload a handgun.] 2pts
Offhand Shooting 2pts
Martial Arts Mastery 1 (Defensive Style) 1pt
Swift Strike 2pts

Mental Malfunction: She is a cold assassin who enjoys her job.

Advantages: Photographic Memory
Disadvantages: Public ID

Skills:
Physical – Drive (Control), Escapology (Improvising), Stealth (Shadowing).
Mental – Investigation (Questioning), Security (Surveillance).

[Breakdown: Stats 12, Powers 21, Total: 33Pts.]

Notes: I’m not to sure about the legality of the powers. I was going for a super-level assassin that is very deadly with a gun. She’ll be reasonably competent in a melee but a handgun is her ‘thing’.

Are the Double Tap and Attack Weak Point powers in the ‘* with a Handgun’ multi-power wasted points? I’m not sure if they can, or even that they should, apply to the ‘Wicked Shot’ Special Attack power.

Thoughts on Limitations:
I went with the “Limitation: Situational – requires a loaded handgun” as the limitation for most of these powers as this character could be disarmed, and is quite limited in her effectiveness until she can get another. I couldn’t see using the Device or Ammunition limitations with this assassin as she would be all set to go with any other handgun she picks up.

Still working on Scarlet Deadeye’s background.

It all looks legal to me, and I am sure that Attack Weak Point works with a Special Blast. I believe that Double Taps would work too.

However, I'm not sure the Multipower gets you anything. I think that the limitation that it applies only to pistols is certainly appropriate to Attack Weak Point and Disarm Expert, but that brings their price down to 1 point each, which is the same as the cost of adding them to a Multipower. So for the same price, you can buy all three outside of a Multipower and have access to them all at the same time. If you want to put them in a Multipower specifically to prevent them from being used together, for flavor/balance reasons, that is fine of course.

The character's defense seems a little vulnerable to me, depending on what the player characters are like, and also on whether this NPC is working alone or is part of a villain group or has minions. If she is going to be a solo villain going against a group of heroes, that might be tough. If needed, you could always buy a little Armor and call it something like 'Defensive Roll', potentially with a limit that it only works against attacks she is aware of.

I was thinking more of flavor with the multipower as I see her only using one of these abilities per action. I diodn't give much thought about the defense side of things, though (thinking that Martial Arts Mastery-Defensive and Deflect 2 had that covered). I will re-evaluate that side of things as I'm now thinking that you are very right. I like the idea of the "Defensive Roll".

Thanks

Finally got Scarlet finished! I have two more in the works (and hope to have posted by weekend).

Ohhh. This is a great villain write-up. Stan Lee once said, "It's more important that the audience is sympathetic to the villain than it is for them to be sympathetic to the Hero!" and I have to agree.

Thanks for the compliment! I was worried that the story was coming off a little too mushy at first. The hard part is weaning it down so that it can actually fit within the small background section of the character sheet.

Lindharin, I totally forgot about including a little more protection for this character. I have two ideas as solutions: 1/ User her in games where the heroes are limited to just the Street Level (25pts); or, 2/ Scarlet here, has a nice red Kevlar overcoat she wears which is Armor 2 (bringing her point total up to 35) for those instances when she is going to be dealing with those tougher customers – she just didn’t bring it in with her for the picture.

As a third option, she could maybe have Agility Boost 2 (only applies toward defensive efforts) giving her wickedly difficult to hit in combat. Sorta like Cleric John Preston in the movie Equalibrium who intuitively knew how/where an opponent would most likely strike/shoot (another option bringing point total up to 35). I didn’t necessarily see her as this sort of villain, but its an option that might better suit some Narrator’s preference.

Wouldn't "Danger Sense" work for that?

Ah yes. Had not read Danger Sense in a long while. The +2 multiplier to defense would certainly help to protect the character from being damaged. Thanks.

** Note: This post has been edited. An updated character sheet with corrected point totals has been posted. **

Finally! Here is a hero that I had been working on in the few spare minutes I've been able to make during this week. I wanted to have it done before I went to see the Ironman movie last night but didn't make the deadline. Originally, my intension was to make this character a villain, but the closer I got to completion, the more I just couldn't see this guy as anything other than a hero.

I wanted to do something different with the character though, and upon hearing a news story about the US military's teleoperated drones I realized that this would be the means to do this.

Anyways, here is

IRONGUARD

Nice job! I like the way you represent the teleoperation.

Thanks. I was actually not sure how I was going to handle things like the skills as Ironguard is really a mindless remote controlled ‘toy’ with input from two people: but figured that since Jeremy was the main operator I’d use his skills and have Artimis available as an advisor using the Alter Ego.

As for the teleoperation method, I envisioned Jeremy laying in a coffin-like box which claustrophobically hugs his entire body from shoulders to feet with hundreds of pressure sensitive pads. These pressure pads press back against Jeremy’s skin so that he is able to guage the strength of his grip of feel if someone/something is touching him. His head would have one of those 3-D headsets that articulate Ironguard’s head in sync with Jeremy’s own movements. The voice of the ‘superhero’ would be that of a near human, adult male. The pattern of speech would run in parallel with Jeremy’s words.

I was going to include a Clairvoyance-Past and Present power with the limitation of Situational (only through video/security cameras linked to accessible networks or broadcast wi-fi transmissions) and having Artimis being the one scanning/studying them from his computers down in his workshop. I’m not sure why I dropped this though since it would only add 1 more point to the character’s cost.

The other think I was struggling with for this character was how to handle the problem of radio jamming and signal interference. And really I’m still struggling there, but I figured that the Susceptibility disadvantage was a step in the right direction. I figured that it would be really be against the spirit of fun to have Ironguard just stop moving and interacting with the npcs simply because the ‘telebot’ went to deep underground and Artie and Jeremy lost contact.

Anyways, it was fun creating this character.

Just realized that I had forgot to change the point breakdown for the character. It should be as follows:

Breakdown: Stats 16, Powers 23 = 39 Pts total

There should be no point bonus for a Weakness as Ironguard doesn't have one.

Sorry.

She's the black sheep of the family. While her father and siblings all fight evil as ULTRA-TEAM, MAXIMA has found her own way in the world: as a villain!

She can leap buildings and throw tanks. She can also fight too! Anything is hers for the taking.
