Looking for a mad scientist type build

Post by AngryGhost »

Just wondering if anyone has, or has links for, any mad scientist builds.

roughly B1 A1 M3 and approx 25-30pt builds.

I'm trying to get some ideas for someone who has several different gadgets that may or or may not work as intended, i.e. rather than just have the possibility of failure they may do something unintended - possibly emulating a power that may or may not be beneficial.

- along the lines of a camera that doesn't just DAZE an opponent with it's flash, but also randomly TELEPORTS them. However, it may...teleport the photographer instead.

I was thinking that they would be part of a large multipower.

I would also want him to have a gadget that conjures "useful" objects - but he isn't aware of what they would be. (I'm actually trying to emulate a mad scientist version of the Wizard from the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon with this!).

Any ideas or links guys?

Well put Solarblast! I’d also like to offer my thanks to the super BASH Administrator. You have saved the good and loyal citizens of BASH Forum from the incessant disturbances caused by the villainous HAWTHORN1. I worry however, that with a name like “hawthorn1”, his evil clone replacement – hawthorn2 – won’t be long from our boards…

The one good thing about this situation is that it gives me an opportunity to address AngryGhost’s original post (if its not too late).

Here is a power limitation that can be used to generate haphazard outcomes.
New Limitation wrote:Random – This power is unpredictable and its use might be helpful to the player, or detrimental. An attack power might work as intended, striking the villain targeted, or it might endanger a teammate instead. A Teleport power may unintentionally send an arch villain safely back to his secret lair. A Daze power may backfire on the user, making her vulnerable to attack.
Whenever a power with the Random limitation is used, the player states its normal intent (i.e. “to blast the villain’s henchman”, “to teleport the team to the other rooftop”, or “to telekinetically lift the villain’s getaway car off the ground”), then the other players at the table suggest possible ways in which the power doesn’t work as planned. These alternative ideas should add something to the game; either to introduce a new challenge, to provide an unusual benefit, or to inject a little fun. The player using the power will then select three of these. Next, the Narrator will offer two possible outcomes that might serve to work against the player’s interests and the player will then pick his/her preferred outcome.
These possible results are then assigned a number from 1 to 6 so that a random roll of 1d6 will determine which result take effect. The player’s original intent happens on a roll of 1. Rolls of 2, 3 or 4 are the three choices made by the players. A roll of 5 results in the outcome offered by the Narrator. If a 6 is rolled, the Narrator will choose the result (though the player may spend a Hero Point to choose instead). Any outcome that significantly hampers the player or team earns a Hero Point. Also, any attack that backfires on the hero or his/her teammates can be defended against with a +1 Multiplier Bonus as it is assumed that the hero shouts some kind of warning. Some powers, such as Flight, Mind Shield and X-Ray Vision do not provide sufficient opportunity to reinterpret it outcomes when used and so the Narrator will be the final judge as to whether Random can be applied to a power or not.
Though Random could be applied to both the camera and ‘conjured’ gadgets, too much use of this limitation could become a bother in the game while everyone stops to figure out another set of ‘random’ possibilities. Using descriptive narration to colour your scientists “useful” objects would definitely be a quirky, and fun, way to quickly handle this effect. [See my post here: http://bashtalk.org/modules.php?name=Fo ... pic&t=1397 for more.]

If you liked the Random limitation keep an eye open for a product I’m finishing up and hoping to offer through RPGNow in December. It will have many more limitations, enhancements, advantages and disadvantages and, best of all, it will be 100% free!

Thanks, BASHMAN. I'm just about to put together the introduction for it and also need to create a character build to highlight one of the advantages before I send it over to you for approval.]
