Mister Fortune

Post by Boost »

Here's a build I haven't used, but definitely enjoy the idea of, he's meant for a 25pt Street Level campaign:

Things always go Mister Fortune's way. He holds luck by the hand and it treats him well. He has no real skill, and blunder's his way to victory during each battle. There is one fatal flaw, if Mister Fortune violates superstition (cat crosses his path, walks under a ladder, etc.) his luck abandons him!

Mister Fortune
B2 A2 M2

Just what I needed!; Conjuration 3 (limitation: Scenery objects)
That was close!; Deflect 2
That would have hurt, huh?; Nullfication 3 (Short range, affects machines)
Lucky Hit; Special Atk 3 (+2 hit, +1 dmg)

Skills; Athletics (Acrobatics), Streetwise (Gather Information)

Advantages: Dumb Luck

Disadvantage: Unskilled

Weakness: Negating (Bad Voodoo)

Example of power usage:
Conjuring: If falling off a building, several awnings , curtains to grab onto, and at the bottom a pile of garbage to land on, will be there to slow or break his fall. If he needs to "Borrow" a car, the key will always be tucked under the seat.

Deflect: He tends to stumble around attacks, and if he's really lucky it will hit something reflective, or metal behind him and bounce it right back.

Nullification: Just when the big bads power blast, or laser cannon is about to end him, they tend to misfire or short out.

Lucky Punch: Mister Fortune is no great fighter, but opponents tend to leave themselves open around him, this special attack doesn't so much represents Mister Fortune as a great fighter, as it does his opponents letting their guard down around him!

(Feel free to steal the idea, Mister Fortune could just a easily be Lady Luck!)

nice use of powers
he isn't really going to be able to hurt anyone with x3 damage, is nullification what he normally uses?

Might I recommend "Attack Weak Point" to represent the "luck" aspect of his hits as well. He 'just happened to hit' a weak spot, etc.

Also armor could be "That could have been a lot worse".

If you want to be mean to the poor guy, you could do a search for every bad luck taboo in the world. :p

Those are cool ideas, but I'm not sure how I would keep him street level, and slot those in. I know I can take setbacks, but setbacks don't really fit with the whole extremely lucky thing.

You could remove nullify to pay for danger sense, attack weak point, and 1 pt of armor.
Instead of spending actions to nullify 1 enemy attack, he could use a X6 defense multiplier to avoid the hits.

Hey Boost, really neat concept (when I take time to stat up an idea, you can know it's particularly neat to me! hehe)... I grabbed alot of your idea, incorporated a few notes from others and added my own origin and ideas for my own version of "Mister Fortune". I call him "FLUKE". Here (below) is his stats I updated. You can see his sheet (with picture) on my character build thread http://bashtalk.org/modules.php?name=Fo ... 0258#10258

I'd note that I didn't change much of your idea at all, and added in some ideas for myself and others and STILL came in at "Street Level" Character Points for 25 pts.

Thanks for being open to others playing with your idea. I really like my take on it and would enjoy playing him as a PC Hero or even a ne'er-do-well gone bad (HEY "NE'ER-DO-WELL" could be a COOL name for him as a VILLAIN!! hehe)

FLUKE
aka. Wind-Fall, Haphazard
Name: Martin Mcilroy
Mental Malfunction: When discovering how extraordinarily lucky he could be, why not try to help people…
Quote: "Huh…? Right…okay then!!"

----------Stats----------
Brawn: 2
Agility: 2
Mind: 1
Soak: x2,
Defense: 5, Deflect 3
Mental def: x1

----------Powers----------
"Just what I needed" (Conjuration 3);
L: scenery objects

"That was close!" (Deflect 3)

"That would have hurt, huh?" (Nulify 3);
E: Small Burst 2x2; Affects Machines

"Lucky Hit" (Special Attack 5) +3 hit, +2 dmg;
LINKED: Attack Weak Point

----------Advantages----------
Dumb Luck [Reroll any dice, once per issue.], Versatile [Power Stunt, once per issue.], Never Surrender [Snap out of it & restore 20 HITS, once per issue.]

----------Disadvantages----------
Unskilled, Freak ["crap… I'm purple….ish…"]

----------Skills----------
Stealth/Evading
Investigation/Gut Instinct

----------Weakness----------
Negating-Bad voodoo: bad luck taboos.

----------Breakdown----------
Breakdown: 25= Stats: 10, Ads/Disads: 1, Powers: 16, Weakness: -2

----------The Origin Of...----------
"It was in early college that Martin gained these abilities… He has suspicions but ultimately doesn't know where his powers came from, so he now simply believes that he's extraordinarily lucky - thus he took up a homemade mask to step in where he could and become a Fluke to the underworld crooks that think they can abuse or steal from others!
Martain's powers did hit ""overnight"" though, though his color change happened over months... The truth of Fluke's power-source comes from a late-night visit by alien scientists. That faiteful night aliens endowed Martin with strange energies giving him his powers. Generally such an ""experiment"" would be monitored for scientific revelation, but as it happens the aliens were drunk from a night out on the galaxy and have mostly forgotten about the ""pranks"" of that ""Really super-dooper fun night on Uurrth""..."

Very Cool! I may combine some of your ideas with BASHMAN's advice to make a final draft of my version.

Excellent! I'd be interested to see, compare, contrast our ideas.
I did weigh using some of BASHMAN's suggestions but decided that Armor seemed like something I didn't want for this idea (and a touch "redundant" with Deflect), so I'd rather up Deflect just a bit rather than having them both at less.
And with Attack Weak Point, I weighed that it's NOT likely that he'd hit by 20+ regularly enough to have it on the sheet, instead of Power Stunting as needed.

Actually... my and your base build aren't *that* different...
These are the difference from my and your build:

STATS
I have -1 Mind

POWERS
I added +1 Deflect and Special Atk +2 more

SKILLS
I changed skills...
Stealth/Evading & Investigation/Gut Instinct
instead of
Athletics/Acrobatics, Streetwise/Gather Information

ADS/DISADS
and I added a few ADS/DISDAS: Versatile, Never Surrender, and Freak ["crap… I'm purple….ish…"]

Not much different in numbers. Your background plan might be completely different. I looked at my guy "FLUKE" as a "Speedball" type hero. Not comedic, but still sorta goofy, but played as a real well meaning young guy wanting to be a hero.
