It is the winter of 1984.

As cold grips the art-deco architecture of Centropolis, the citizen huddle together not only for warmth but also for heat.

It has been nearly five years since the city's timeless heroes, the Centurions left for deep space, promising to return shortly.

In the time they have been gone, corruption, crime and despair grip the once "City of Tomorrow".

Super gangs, boosted on power giving drugs, carrying illegal military tech or jacked up with black market cyberware prowl the streets and pray on the innocents. The once quiet inner city neighborhood of Tuxedo has become a combat zone that even the Police won't set foot in.

Thoughout the city the newly formed Russian mob, lead by Viktor "The Butcher" Vashenka is at war with the Costa Nostra lead by Antonio "Black Tony" Romano. Both are challenged from the south part of the city by the Jamaican Posse lead by Baron Dread, a self-proclaimed Voodoo houngan.

The police, underfunded and rife with corruption can do little and most good citizens have come to almost fear them as much as the criminals.

But things are changing; a new mayor, Tommy Drake, has been elected on a platform of ending corruption and a promise to return the city to its once proud standing as a city of the future.

With cautious hope the citizens of Centropolis watch and wait. Most expect the mayor to turn up in a dumpster or floating in either the harbor or the Kirby River that winds through the heart of the city.

With two failed assassination attempts on his life in his first month in office, Mayor Drake refuses to be intimidated and has put out the call for heroes to stand up for their city.

You have answered the call!

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Notes for the players;

• Your character lives in Centropolis

• They need to have been active, even if for a short while and have some unofficial way for the mayor's office to get in touch with them.

• You have been summoned to a meeting in an underground parkade in the center of town, at midnight.

• When you arrived, you saw the other heroes gathered there.

• Head to the "In Character" thread and begin roleplaying based on the set scene. If you have questions, please post them in the "Out Of Character" thread.

• Have fun.

• Campaign is set at 40 points. Calculate Hero Points or Setback Points as appropriate please.

The Original Centurions!

Tiger-Man – A non-powered hand-to-hand hero who also carries a .45 on his hip. Tiger-Man must be in his late 60's as he was active early in the Golden Age. He acts as the leader of the Centurions.

Starfighter – Handsome, dashing, charming and a real hit with the ladies, Starfighter is a flying blaster with the Centurions, whose blue eyes, winning smile and golden locks have made him a hearthrob with the ladies of Centropolis.

Arcana - Twin sister of the villain Arcane, Arcana uses her white magic to fight crime and evil. Beautiful by anyone's standards, she has been romantically linked to Starfighter, but theirs is a rocky romance.

Triclops – A large man normally standing 7 feet tall and with 3 eyes, Triclops is as strong as they come and can grow up to over 100 feet in size*. He has displayed the following powers from his eyes; Eyebeams, X-Ray Vision and Nightvision. He is a good natured giant who serves with distinction and honor on the Centurions.

Punchline - A clown themed crimefighter, he uses gadgets, acrobatics and martial arts (as well as really really bad quips) to dazzle, baffle and ultimately defeat his opponents. Considered by many in the press to be the very soul of the Centurions.

Star Princess - A beautiful alien princess from a far off world, her lavender skinned beauty is only matched by her fierce warrior training and energy based powers. Romantically linked to Triclops, it was she who convinced the Centurions to head into space on their last mission.

Mr. Mercury - Listed as the "fastest man on Earth", Mr. Mercury is a no-nonsense kind of hero who has little time for quips, bravado or joking around. He is also well known for using science to thwart villains as well as his super-speed powers.

*Note On Growth in the Zenith Universe. Level 4 growth is the limit for all humans, though some can go to level 5, this causes major mental or health problems for them.

FRONT-RUNNER
To add some excitement to his life, Alec Halsey took up Parkour/Free Running (he is ahead of his time) as a hobby. On one of his rooftop running escapades, Alec fell through the skylight of an abandoned warehouse and was knocked unconscious from the fall.

When he regained consciousness, Alec discovered that he was tied down to a gurney in a makeshift lab within the warehouse. It seems the mob was using the warehouse as a lab to synthesize a new type of methamphetamine. One of their super-powered henchmen, Speed Freak, had gotten himself killed, but they were able to recover his body and harvest his organs for study and research. His adrenal gland was instrumental in synthesizing this new drug.

Alec was to be the first test subject and was injected with the drug despite his protests.. In a surge of panicked adrenaline, Alec broke free of his leather restraints. He was moving faster than humanly possible, dodging bullets, and incapacitating the mob scientist and his goons in mere seconds.

He flushed the remainder of the drug down the toilet and destroyed the scientist’s notes to prevent them from synthesizing any more, then made an anonymous call to the police reporting the location of the mobsters. He then sped away into the night , faster than the eye could see.
(OOC: At least he thinks he destroyed all of the notes. )

Since then Alec has fashioned a costume for himself and has begun patrolling the rooftops and alleyways of the city as the superhero known as Front-Runner. He does this partially for the thrill it gives him, but also to prevent innocents from coming to harm. He had learned himself just how dangerous the city could be, and he hopes that he can make it a little safer with his abilities.

Dr. George James Sinclair arrived in Centropolis in 1973 to become an interim professor of history and comparative religions at the prestigious University of Centropolis. The vacancy was created by the death of an old friend who was secretly the mentor of Arcana from the Original Centurions. Dr. Sinclair who was already a professor emeritus of Oxford University and effectively retired at the time replaced his old friend at one of his last requests. Dr. Sinclair continued mentoring Arcana until her departure for her last adventure. Three years ago, the media identified him as a hero "Professor Magic" when one of the local gangs summoned something from the very depths of hells and the fight became very public. Today, his university courses are the most popular, and his brownstone townhouse receives many requests for magical aid.

Secret: Dr. George James Sinclair is actually Scottish anthropologist Sir James George Frazier (1854 - 1941) author of the Golden Bough. The celebrity book made him a relative rogue of the secretive wizard's community. He covered his "death" using a shapeshifting spell and the chaos of the war to change his identity to a young Sinclair. He never admits his age, but his official documents average it around 70. While certainly not immortal, his dedicated practice of the magical arts have extended his life expentecy by a couple centuries.

Gosh! Clever use of the multi-power!
Nice character, I'm jealous.

I could have made Detective Zero more effective and without most of his limitations by using Multi-Power.
Shame on me^^

Thanks. I posted it in Super Builds and didn't get much feedback.

I wanted a mage who could do almost anything.
